Frequently Asked Questions

What is Coaching?

Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.  Coaching honors the client as the expert in his/her life and work and believes that every client is creative, resourceful, and whole. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life.

Standing on this foundation, the coach's responsibility is to:

- Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve

- Encourage client self-discovery

- Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies

- Hold the client responsible and accountable

Adopted from the International Coach Federation (ICF).

What coaching is NOT?

Coaching is not therapy, counseling or consulting.

Coaching focuses on your strengths not weakness and the future not the past.

It is a commitment to forward thinking and forward actions.

What sort of clients do you coach?

I coach:

- Ex-patriates across all industries particularly based in Japan.

- Japanese nationals with good English communication ability, who wish to pursue a career with multi-national firms and careers based overseas.

- University students who want to discover their purpose in life, work and society.

- People in transition such as career, retirement and cross-culture.

- Anyone who is looking for motivation to put their thoughts into actions towards achieving their   goals.

What is the coaching process like?

Through the process of inquiry and personal discovery, you (the client) will build a level of awareness and responsibility that will enable you to set realistic goals and expectations from the beginning and work towards them at your own pace.  Your expectations are reviewed regularly and supported by structure and effective feedback.  Ultimately, the coaching process is a self directive process and you will have the responsibility to navigate through the process as you see fit.
